Inspiration for A Montana Born Christmas

Our A Montana Born Christmas boxed set released yesterday. Today I'm reblogging Melissa McClone's post  about the songs, books, and movies that inspired a few of the authors while they wrote their stories.

Jane Porter
The song Amy Grant’s “Breath of Life” (Mary’s Song) provided in inspiration. Check out the video:
The song is so spiritual and quiet and full of love and yearning, and my story is full of love and yearning, too.

Megan Crane
I’ve always loved “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.”  I think if anything inspired the story it was that song!  So angst and sad and heartbreaking and perfect at the same time.  My favorite Christmas feeling!

CJ Carmichael
The 4 daughters in my Carrigan’s of the Circle C series were modeled after the four girls in Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Little Women. Callan Carrigan (heroine of A Cowgirl’s Christmas) is my “Amy.” She is the baby of the family and while she isn’t artsy or ultra-feminine like Amy, she is strong-willed and stubborn. When she sets her mind on something, she is unstoppable. Remember how Amy is the sister who ends up with the charming Laurie from next door? Well, my Callan has an equally wonderful hero in store for her, as well. She just takes a long time to admit it.

Katherine Garbera
Please Come Home For Christmas by the Eagles.  It’s not a direct plea from Carson to Annie but more Marietta to Annie who needs to come home to reset and figure out her life.

One of the songs that provided inspiration for this story was Do You Want to Build a Snowman. One of the characters is a six-year-old girl and she loves the movie Frozen! I also thought the song fit her mother, Meg, who is the heroine of my story.

Mine! (Dani)
I mention a lot of Christmas music in BLAME THE MISTLETOE. The teenagers think Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and Elvis’s Blue Christmas are super old-fashioned and tease their parents about liking Boney M—which is one of my personal favourites (Feliz Navidad!) You’ll be humming it all day now, I know you will.
